Our Heritage

In August of 1925, six men met under a large oak tree and bowed their heads in prayer. They asked God to give them the land where they stood for a Christian camp and training facility. Their vision was to provide a place for boys and girls, men and women to come and study God’s Word, relax, and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.

God heard the prayers of these men and granted their request. The next two decades were filled with camp ministry, evangelism, and church planting. Camp Oak Hills was the name of the summer camp where the missionaries lived and ran camp for the people of northern Minnesota. In 1946 Oak Hills Fellowship began the second part of its vision—the training facility which grew into Oak Hills Christian College.

Camp Oak Hills was closed after the summer of 1982 due to finances and declining registrations. The facility was leased to an organization that ran a Spanish camp for 20 years. This organization made a number of improvements to the facilities and expanded the camp to house 200 people. From 2004 – 2008 the camp was leased to a Christian camp organization and was also used for men’s retreats and family reunions.

The Oak Hills Board of Directors made the decision in May 2006 to operate Camp Oak Hills youth camps once again beginning the summer of 2009.
