2025 Summer Missionary

Joshua Johnson

May 2025

Dear Friends & Family,

My name is Joshua Johnson. I hope that this letter finds you well. I have been working hard learning this winter at my local trade school, Northwest Technical College. Through an internship class, I did an internship for Westermans Repair (Neil Westerman) doing commercial kitchen service repair, which involved fixing rooftop furnace and air conditioning units, ovens, salad coolers, walk-in coolers and freezers, microwaves, ice machines, and many more. I have been very blessed that this internship turned into a part-time job when it was done. In August, I am going to start there full-time. The Lord knows what will happen next at that point, I just have to trust Him. Although, I do believe that this is a huge career opportunity for me. So far, I have really enjoyed it and have been stretched to learn in so many more ways than I thought would be possible. Also, another thing that has happened: A day before I graduated high school in the beginning of May, I graduated college! This was a huge milestone in my life, and I have learned so much.

This spring I have also had the amazing opportunity to start and lead a small group Bible study on the book of Galatians of about 7-9 people my age. I have loved being able to study scripture passages, then write a lesson that sparks group discussion and apply an application. The Lord has led me for His glory, and He has been doing amazing things in and through me.

Now, this summer, I have an amazing and exciting opportunity to serve as a summer missionary at Camp Oak Hills. I am very excited to see what the Lord will do in and through me this summer as I allow Him to use me as His hands and feet. My passion for the Lord makes me desire to share His Good News and disciple campers here at Camp Oak Hills. My summer will start in early June with an intensive two-week training period. Then, I will serve for 5 weeks investing in the lives of campers as a cabin counselor. This is the same position I had last summer, and I loved it, so I am looking forward to being a part of this ministry again.

Another thing that is going on in my life during the summer, (I know, this letter is getting long, bear with me here) my youth group is going to go on a missions trip to Honduras with Youth for Christ Ministries the last week of June. My plan is to go with them for that trip. While we are there, the plan is to fly into San Pedro Sula. Then from there travel to La Entrada, where we will be staying at a camp near there to learn from missionaries and work with them. There is also a possibility of doing a building project at the camp as well. We will then go back into La Entrada and doing something like a VBS with the children in the town. During that, we will be ministering to them, sharing a gospel message, and coming alongside them for Christ’s glory. Whether it be at the coffee houses that we do to raise support, other work projects, on the plane, and in the preparation stage, the team is going to be growing in the Lord while we encourage each other and strengthen our friendships.

So, the primary focus of this letter is to ask for you to partner with me. For both camp and Honduras, I am going to ask you to do this in prayer, which is a powerful tool. The reason why I am asking you to partner with me is to further the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray that the Gospel will be clearly taught, and heard with open ears, which is to the end, salvation and discipleship of the child. Pray also that I will have the physical and mental energy to discern the right opportunities for discipleship and sharing His Word in the name of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit to bring about the Lord's will.

The second focus of my letter is to ask you to partner with me financially. For Honduras, I have been blessed that the funds already have been taken care of. However, for Camp Oak Hills, my position will involve a combination of a paid salary and raised support. This enables the camp to remain financially accessible to as many campers as possible. My support goal is to raise $2,500 by August 1st.

Would you please consider making a financial gift towards this goal?

If you are able to be involved, please return the enclosed response card or give online at campoakhills.org. If giving online, please enter my name in the “Summer Staff Support” section. (All donations are tax-deductible.)

I appreciate your time in considering this, your friendship, and your support.

Serving Jesus,

Jude 24-25

Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
