2025 Summer Missionary

Anna Robeck

 Summer’s here!

And God’s called for an adventure.

Dear Friends & Family,

I’ve just finished my sophomore year of high school, and I’m looking forward to summer. While the school year seemed to have zipped past, God has put me into a wonderful church family of brothers and sisters in Christ, and I’ve grown deeper in my personal faith in Jesus. He’s taught me the importance of trusting in His sovereign timing and reasoning for everything that happens in life and seeing the beauty of serving others selflessly. (Even when you’re completely exhausted from the day before and in serious need of caffeine...)

I’ve taken up the responsibility this past school year as a co-leader for the worship band for my youth group. I wasn’t perfect at it, but God guided me through the struggles of planning and cooperating with my team's schedules and lives. Taking up this responsibility was a scary decision, but I knew in my heart it was something God wanted me to do. It was a wonderful learning experience for me. Leading others stretched my heart in ways I never knew it could. While being in a leadership role, I began to see the faults within myself, even feeling I wasn’t qualified to lead. While I set an example for others, God taught me the importance of forgiving myself for past mistakes and shortcomings as well as forgiving others. It was a gracious reminder that even leaders aren’t perfect and need Jesus too.

Last summer I volunteered at Camp Oak Hills as a member of the SOS (Serving Others Selflessly) Team. I served a total of two weeks; one week was for training and the other was actual work. SOS is a team of volunteers that work behind the scenes to help keep camp moving smoothly. Some of the responsibilities we had were doing dishes after meals and cleaning bathrooms when campers were out doing various activities.

My time at camp was significantly shorter than most of my fellow staff members, who often stayed the whole summer. During my time there, God showed me what Camp Oak Hills was really about. Camp Oak Hills’ purpose is to model what Christ’s love looks like to kids and lead them in a way where they want Jesus for themselves. As a staff member my job is to be someone they can look up to and see how Christ lives.

I was spending time with Jesus one afternoon when I was serving, and I felt God say He wanted me to come back this next summer to do that very thing. I wasn’t sure if I was able to, so I simply prayed, “God, I don't know how it’s going to work out, so you have to figure it out.” And I left it at that.

After my two weeks of camp, I began thinking about it again, and talked to my mom, but before I could, she stopped me and said, “God already told me, you’re going to work at camp next summer.” Coincidence? I think not!! It was perfectly clear what God wanted me to do.

I want to make an impact on kids and show them the same love Christ showed me, whether that's comforting homesick sick campers or helping them learn new Bible verses. I’m looking forward to doing the big and small acts of love.

This summer, I will be serving at Camp Oak Hills as a member of the Program Staff team, which means I will be co-counseling in a cabin of 8-10 girls each week, and I will also be helping to lead a skills class in the mornings. My summer will start in early June with an intensive two-week training period. Then I will serve for 6 weeks investing in the lives of campers.

My request is for you to keep me in your prayers as I follow Jesus on this new path and support me along the way. There are many new issues and struggles I will be facing, and I ask you to pray for me as I follow Jesus.

Please consider praying for:

- Health, mental health, and sleep. Serving kids in a cabin overnight can affect the amount of sleep I could get. And getting worn down could also affect how well I could lead kids, and getting sick would be bad news.

- Peace, patience, wisdom, and strength. Sometimes kids can misbehave, and I will need to learn how to navigate not only how to take care of them but also be able to handle them appropriately when a camper isn’t a happy camper.

- That I would successfully lead campers to Christ and see them choose Jesus for themselves.

- Continue to grow in my own faith as well.

My position will involve a combination of a paid salary and raised support. This enables camp to remain financially accessible to as many campers as possible. My support goal is to raise $3,500 by August 1st.

Would you consider making a financial gift towards this goal? If you decide to do so, please return the enclosed response card or give online at campoakhills.org. If giving online, please enter my name in the “Summer Staff Support” section. (All donations are tax deductible.)

I appreciate your time in considering this, your friendship, and your support.

Leading for Jesus,
